For the past week I’ve been trialling the new CBD lozenges by Naturopathica. I wanted to see if the active cannabidiol (don’t worry it’s the non psychoactive compound!) would make a difference to my stress levels. More specifically I wanted to see if they would enhance feelings of calm and assist in better sleep.

Here’s what I found…

Since these lozenges are simple to take I took two a day – one when I felt slightly overwhelmed or anxious about something and one 20 mins before I went to bed to calm my chatty mind. And they did have a very mild effect. Before I performed on the piano for my charity concert I was SO nervous so I took one lozenge and I’m pretty sure I felt more at ease. Obviously there was not a miraculous difference but certainly a slight improvement in my anxiety levels. I often find it hard to fall asleep because my mind is so busy so before bed, I would take another lozenge and, again, not a miraculous change but a mild difference in my levels of feeling calm.

What is the big deal about CBD anyway?

CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant, then diluting it with a carrier oil like coconut or hemp seed oil. The documented benefits of this trending compound thus far are:

Reduction in epilepsy in some child cases
Easing feelings anxiety and depression
Relieving pain by reducing inflammation

Is it safe to take?

A Food and Drug Administration advisory panel recommended approval of the CBD medication Epidiolex to treat two rare forms of childhood epilepsy and all Naturopathica CBD products are fully compliant with UK and EU regulations.
Have these lozenges fundamentally changed my life? Not yet but after a more long term use, I’m sure I might feel some more positive effect. I would consider using them again when I have to perform or because I want to unwind and relax. Have you tried CBD before?
